In trying to decide on a somewhat witty title for my blog, I thought of the classic song recorded by the Beach Boys in 1965. Having been born in 1960, their song has always been a part of my life. One can almost see the notes take shape in a person’s head when I say “Hi, my name is Ronda.” I don’t even have to say – how may I help you – it comes naturally. My former boss of 25 years used to summon me into his office by singing out the notes on a weekly basis making me smile, but it was a love/hate relationship. It always bothered me that the spelling was wrong. My mom had it right – there should be no “h”. It isn’t a breathy Rhhhhonda or Fhonda, or Hhonda. Plain and simple – Ronda – not Rhonda.

But wait – good news!! As part of this post I needed Google to tell me when the song was actually recorded. Come to find out – when the Beach Boys first released the song on their album “The Beach Boys Today!” they spelled it correctly!!

But, I’m sad to say that when they later revised it and released it as the single Help Me Rhonda, it became a great success. Not sure what that all means, but I learned something new today, and that is a good thing. Now when I hear that wonderful peppy old song, I’ll smile being a little bit wiser.
